The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold


"The Lovely Bones" is a novel by Alice Sebold. The tale of a young girl who was raped and murdered is depicted in the novel. It is told in the novel the murdered girl watched her family and friends from heaven. The novel was critically praised and became best-seller novel. Peter Jackson directed its film adaptation which was released in 2009.

Overview of The Lovely Bones 
In 1973, Susie salmon who was 14 years old was on way to home from school in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She met George Harvey who made doll houses, brought her to show his newly made men in the field. She went with him but he raped her and then murdered her. He hides her body. The family of Susie could not believe on that news until a dog brought her elbow. The police inquired Harvey but found no proof. Jack, Father of Susie suspected Harvey because his daughter Lindsey told him. Jack took leave from work.
Ray Singh who was the classmate of Susie, had liked Susie and wanted to go out with Susie. He made a relationship with Ruth for their concern with Susie. Len Fenerman was investigating the case but he told her family that he could no more inquiry so the case had to be closed.
One night, Jack looked out of the window and saw a light in the field. He suspected that was Harvey. He rushed there to attack him. But there were Clarissa and Brian classmates of Susie. Brian and Clarissa beat Jack and broke his arm. Jacks recovered from injury but his wife cheated him with Finerman.
Lindsey went to Harvey's home to find some proof in order to help her father. But Harvey came suddenly and police didn't arrest him and he left Norristown. After he went, many proofs were found which showed that Harvey had killed Susie as he had already killed many other girls.
